Copa – Cogeca Presidium meeting: key discussions on the future of European agriculture

On February 20-21, Dr. Arūnas Svitojus, President of the Chamber of Agriculture, attended the Copa-Cogeca Presidium meetings in Brussels.

These important meetings provided an opportunity to address key issues related to the future of the European agricultural sector, the latest policy initiatives, and the challenges farmers face across Europe. “Lithuania’s participation in Copa-Cogeca meetings is vital in shaping both national and European agricultural policy. The world is undoubtedly advancing, with technological, social, and economic changes impacting our daily lives. However, agriculture remains a cornerstone of global development. Without this sector, the world could not survive or progress sustainably, as it is intrinsically linked to food production, resource management, environmental protection, and both regional and international cooperation.

Today, agriculture not only provides food, but also plays a pivotal role in combating climate change, adapting to the challenges posed by diminishing natural resources, and addressing the demands of an ever-growing global population. Moreover, agriculture is a key component of the global economy, supporting millions of jobs, particularly in developing countries. The sector’s efficiency and sustainability have a direct impact on the stability of global supply chains and economic growth. Additionally, agriculture is deeply intertwined with social issues – it shapes rural quality of life, alleviates poverty, and fosters regional development,” states Dr. Svitojus.
