On November 28, Dr. Arūnas Svitojus, President of the Chamber of Agriculture, and Vice-President Algis Baravykas attended a meeting of the Copa-Cogeca Presidium.
“The Copa-Cogeca Presidency addressed several pressing issues, including the future of EU agriculture through 2050, underscoring the significance of agriculture as a strategic sector. We all agreed on our shared goal: to cultivate a competitive agricultural sector that guarantees food security and sustainability. Farmers and cooperatives must be at the core of Europe’s competitiveness, ensuring that consumers receive safe food. We held a debate regarding the EU deforestation regulation and presented the final version of the document titled ‘The Needs of Farmers and Agricultural Cooperatives in the Framework Programme for Research and Innovation.’ We also discussed the document ‘Proposals for Photovoltaic Systems in Agriculture and Forestry.’ The meeting included the participation of EU Agriculture Commissioner Christophe Hansen, with whom we engaged in a constructive discussion about the expectations of Lithuanian farmers,” stated Dr. Svitojus.
