On 21 July, the Chamber of Agriculture of the Republic of Lithuania (LAC) hosted partners from Latvia and Poland participating in the Interreg Baltic Sea Region Programme project “AgriLoop: Circular Innovations for Sustainable Farms in the Baltic Sea Region.” The meeting was attended by Guntis Gūtmanis, Chairman of the Latvian Agricultural Organisation Cooperation Council (LOSP), and Barbara Laskowska, Director of the Podlaskie Chamber of Agriculture (Podlaska Izba Rolnicza).
The project partnership also includes the Institute of Animal Science of the Lithuanian University of Health Sciences, which serves as the lead partner. The Chamber of Agriculture of the Republic of Lithuania is responsible for implementing activities aimed at introducing practical circular economy solutions on farms. The project focuses on promoting circular economy principles in agriculture, improving the efficient use of organic resources, developing composting solutions, closing nutrient cycles, and enhancing the competitiveness of farms.
During the meeting, the partners discussed the project’s objectives, planned activities, implementation schedule, distribution of responsibilities, and upcoming joint tasks. They also exchanged views on planned demonstration farms, training activities, the dissemination of best practices, and the involvement of farmers in project activities across Lithuania, Latvia, and Poland. The partnership is committed to ensuring that the solutions developed within the project are practical, easy to implement on farms, and responsive to the real needs of farmers.
The Director of the Chamber of Agriculture of the Republic of Lithuania, Sigitas Dimaitis, emphasised that many years of cooperation with partners from Latvia and Poland have created a solid foundation for new international initiatives.
“We are pleased with our long-standing and constructive partnership with the farmers’ self-governance organisations of Latvia and Poland. Over the years, the professional relationships, joint initiatives, and mutual trust we have built have naturally evolved into a common Interreg project. I am confident that this project will not only strengthen our cooperation but also provide tangible benefits for farmers by encouraging the implementation of sustainable and practical circular economy solutions.”
Ina Kalėda, Head of the Project Department at the Chamber of Agriculture of the Republic of Lithuania and Project Manager, highlighted that the project’s success will depend on active cooperation and knowledge exchange among the partners.
“This project will benefit all partner countries. Each organisation brings its own experience and best practices, and by working together we will develop solutions that can be adapted to different farming conditions. International cooperation enables us not only to share knowledge but also to jointly identify the most effective ways to strengthen the circular economy in agriculture and enhance the resilience of farms to future challenges.”
The AgriLoop project brings together partners from Lithuania, Latvia, and Poland with the common goal of promoting the application of circular economy principles in agriculture, reducing dependence on synthetic fertilisers, improving soil health, making better use of organic resources, and contributing to climate change mitigation. The project includes practical training, demonstration activities on farms, methodological guidance, and international exchange of best practices to ensure that the developed solutions can be effectively integrated into everyday farming across all partner countries.
